Customer or a Client?

If you don’t know how to differentiate between customers and clients, you may well be losing business.

First comes the “prospect”

Anybody who is able to buy or use your product or service is considered a prospect. If one of these prospects decides it is time to buy a product or service offered by you or your competitors, they may call you. Whether they do or not largely depends upon the success of your marketing efforts.

Next comes the “customer”

If they do contact you, they become a customer. A customer will have queries, they will want to test the water to see that you are indeed professional, knowledgeable, reliable and helpful, and that the product or service you offer is right for them.
You must now focus your efforts on making sure the customer will buy from you – not your competitor!

Turn them into “clients”

If and when the customer buys a product or service from you, he or she becomes a client. This is even better, because you have convinced a customer that you are the person to deal with, and they’ve entrusted you with their dollars for the product or service. Next time they want a similar product or service, they will come to you.

Treat clients like gold!

A client is the most important person to your business, but a customer falls a very close second. A customer is a client-in-waiting. The question is, will that customer become your client, or the client of your competitor?
