MARKET REPORT

The market this month compared with this time last year is like chalk and cheese. The enquiry level is much higher and the sale conversion rate is on the rise. We are seeing the return of the private equity groups and a recent financial review ad for a $3million business attracted a record 30 quality buyer enquiries.

The 30 year old business is an importer and distributors of couplings, adapters and hoses to a wide industry sector and the demand for these types of businesses caught us a little by surprise.

It’s not the product that we think is the key to the high level of enquiry so much as the type of business. The market appetite is high for uncomplicated importer and wholesaler of high demand products selling to a wide industry sector. This increased level of activity is also a sign of growing confidence from the buyers and some evidence that if a buyer can get finance they are prepared to buy.

We are also seeing the industrial business sector showing increased business profits in the first half of this financial year, getting somewhere back to normal so those businesses which had a poor 2009 financial year result are now able to put their businesses up for sale.

We are looking forward to taking some long established family businesses to market this calendar year fulfilling many baby boomers exit strategies.

Voice based search has increased in importance as Internet mobile devices increased in the past 12 months. Google has launched Google Goggles which recongise pictures to search the web. Location based search service are also becoming important, as mobile sensors combine GPS, it also allows nearby point of interest to be displayed.

Social Search:

As the numbers of users in the social media has grown drastically, Bing and Google have both taken this into consideration. We can now opt in to see the search results from our social media network as part of the search result page. Organization’s key to succeed in this, is to use this as part of the market intelligence to leverage to their advantage, building positive public relationship and maximise networking opportunities.

Personalised Search:

Google is now holding 180 days of search history based on cookies. The search result will now take into consideration of the previous search interaction which means organizations will need to focus on providing relevant content to grab the users’ attention to increase the click through rates.
